Electoral Violence and Justice

Overview

The FufuaICC campaign is dedicated to highlighting the need for justice regarding the atrocities committed during Kenya's 2007-2008 post-election violence. The violence saw over 1,200 people killed, and thousands displaced. Moreover, there was an increasing cases of rape and sexual violence in slum regions in Nairobi. Due to the Kenya Police Service proving ineffective, looting, murder, sexual abuse, and excessive use of force was rampantly documented (Cooke, 2009). The campaign focuses on urging the ICC to reopen or re-evaluate cases against key political figures and other accomplices involved in the violence, and push for justice for the victims.

Objectives

  • To pressure the ICC to reopen investigations into the 2007-2008 Kenyan post-election violence.
  • To ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
  • To combat impunity and promote accountability in Kenyan politics.
  • To raise awareness globally about the need for international legal systems to address such crises effectively.
